Liz Muir. In her abstract work, the artist reveals subtle glimpses of her subject beneath the layers of abstract knife and brushwork with kaleidoscopic arrays of color. In this exhibition she was drawn to the figure, facial features, sensuous curves of the skin and gestures. Muir continues to question the definitions of “Subject” and “Representation”. The work is strong and spontaneous with many steps between the initial idea and the fully executed painting. Muir’s work is richly textured, surrounding you and drawing you into the painting. Muir spreads deeply vicarious layers of oil paint that arouse a range of feelings and emotions.
