The works in this collection have been painted over the past year. I have always found the painting of flowers in its many forms inspirational creatively. In this show I have used flowers to inspire this series of paintings. My artistic career started as a watercolour artist. Watercolour painting has a strong tradition in the mastering of techniques such as washes, pigment, glaze and transparency. It is also very unforgiving in its application, so, if you are interested in transparency, which I have always been, it becomes a challenge each time you put brush to paper. It is very liberating to move across to paint and canvas from such a background as there are many similarities to be used from such a transition. I have painted on canvas for many years and still find the journey even more exciting, more drama and atmosphere to create from the glazes combined with more solid colour contrasts.
